Trouble’s Brewing is the 26th episode of Pokémon: Johto League Champions, the fourth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 183rd episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 185, Bulbapedia code EP183). It first aired in Japan on 1 February 2001 and in the United States on 8 December 2001. It falls within the season’s Ecruteak City & the Fog Badge stretch (EP181–EP183).
Synopsis
Misty befriends Sakura, the youngest of Ecruteak’s Kimono Sisters, who battle Ash’s group to decide whether she may travel with them. A lost Eevee leads the gang to the sisters’ tea house, where Brock is smitten by Satsuki, Sumomo, Tamao and Koume, and Sakura chafes at being treated as an afterthought, just as Misty was by her own sisters. Team Rocket wreck a tea ceremony, wolfing the cakes and dunking a guard in the kettle, then grab for the sisters’ Eevee evolutions; Arbok’s Headbutt and Wrap overpower Sakura’s Eevee, but Poliwhirl’s Bubble beats Weezing’s Smog and twin Water Guns wash the trio away.
Sakura asks to join the journey, and her sisters set a condition: win a best-of-three. Misty’s Poliwhirl trades Tackles with Sumomo’s Vaporeon and lands Double Slap, but a Quick Attack into the river and an Aurora Beam settle round one for the sisters.
Team Rocket return with cages, trapping Eevee after it loses to Victreebel; Staryu’s Tackles cage James and Arbok, Chikorita’s Vine Whip bundles Victreebel in with Jessie, and Umbreon’s Quick Attack frees Eevee before Water Gun blasts the lot away. Pikachu then levels the score, Thunder beating Satsuki’s Jolteon after Thunder Wave blocks Thunderbolt. Before the decider, Sakura chooses to stay and grow stronger first, and the gang set off for Olivine City.
