Synopsis

May reaches the Slateport Contest Hall just before registration closes, while Team Rocket arrive too late to enter and decide to sell Pokéblocks instead. With three hours to go the group eats, and May is surprised to find that Drew is entered too.

In the Appeals Round, presented by Vivian Meridian, Drew’s Roselia scores 29.4 with Petal Dance, Stun Spore and Magical Leaf, and Robert’s Milotic wows the crowd. May’s Beautifly performs a Frisbee routine with Gust and a Silver Wind tornado and scores 24.9, enough to advance, and Drew hands her a rose “for Beautifly”, telling her she still has a lot to learn.

In the Battle Stage May is paired against Drew. Gust briefly blocks Magical Leaf, but Roselia’s never-missing attacks steadily drain her points, Petal Dance overwhelms Silver Wind, and a Solar Beam knocks Beautifly down; when time runs out Drew moves on. Robert’s Milotic then beats Roselia with Iron Tail and Twister and goes on to win the Slateport Ribbon. May makes peace with Drew and vows to win next time, while Team Rocket’s Pokéblock “lesson” from an old man drags on into the night — and for once they do not blast off.
