Synopsis

Pushing open the Mauville Gym door drops the group onto a roller-coaster platform that carries them to a giant robot Raikou, whose head Pikachu’s Iron Tail blows off. The delighted Gym Leader Wattson and his assistant Watt accept Ash’s challenge, while Team Rocket discover New Mauville, an abandoned power station full of Voltorb and Magnemite, and plan to capture them for Giovanni.

In a three-on-three match Pikachu knocks out Magnemite, Voltorb and Magneton with one hit each, overpowering Magneton’s Zap Cannon with Thunder. Then Pikachu falls ill, and Nurse Joy finds he was overcharged by the robot — explaining the lopsided win. A deflated Wattson wanders to the power plant and befriends a wild Electrike just as Team Rocket seal the station’s Pokémon in an electricity-proof machine.

A second robot Raikou runs amok until Seviper’s Poison Tail wrecks it and the caged Pokémon break free; Pikachu downs Seviper and Cacnea with Quick Attack, Electrike paralyses Dustox with Thunder Wave, and Thunderbolt blasts the trio off. Ash confesses why he won so easily and tries to return the Dynamo Badge, but Wattson insists he earned it, takes Electrike as his new partner and asks for a rematch some day.
