Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue! is the 12th episode of Pokémon DP: Sinnoh League Victors, the thirteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 631st episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 636, Bulbapedia code DP169). It first aired in Japan on 18 March 2010 and in the United States on 16 October 2010. It falls within the season’s The road to Lake Valor stretch (EP167–EP173).
Aired out of order on 16 October 2010, between A Grand Fight for Winning! (DP177) and For The Love Of Meowth! (DP178), twelve days after Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs came out in North America (4 October 2010); its opening and closing narration was made generic to fit. Afterwards it returned to its place in the English season, as episode 11 on Pokémon.com and the DVDs.
Synopsis
Ash and his friends help a Pokémon Ranger named Ben capture a runaway Heatran inside a volcano. An earthquake frightens the Heatran away before Ben can befriend it, and while he chases it with a Pidgeot, Team Rocket’s RoboDiglett interferes and sends him tumbling into a river.
His Feraligatr carries him over a waterfall to Ash, Dawn and Brock, but his Capture Styler is lost and Team Rocket find it downstream. Ben leads the group up the mountain to a cave holding a lake of magma, where Heatran absorbs heat with Flash Fire; Team Rocket arrive too, but James cannot work the Styler, and Heatran’s Eruption shakes the cavern.
Buizel, Piplup and Buneary cool the air while Ben recovers the Styler, and Meowth drops the robot’s remote into the lava, sending RoboDiglett out of control until Heatran destroys it. As Heatran falls towards the magma, Feraligatr’s Ice Beam hardens the surface to save it. Ben calms and captures Heatran, then flies off by helicopter to take it to the National Park.
