An Elite Coverup! is the 13th episode of Pokémon DP: Sinnoh League Victors, the thirteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 632nd episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 637, Bulbapedia code DP170). It first aired in Japan on 1 April 2010 and in the United States on 21 August 2010. It falls within the season’s The road to Lake Valor stretch (EP167–EP173).
Premiered on 21 August 2010, a week after the Shaymin episode; the Ranger special that came between them in Japan was held back until October.
Synopsis
Ash loses a battle to Bertha of the Elite Four after she helps the group recover a boy’s stolen Magby. Team Rocket, posing as a Day Care, have taken the Magby from young Roland with a promise to evolve it in two hours, and the group find the shop empty.
Roland’s relative Bertha, who asks Brock to keep her Elite Four identity quiet, leads the search. From an observatory tower Roland spots the fake shop, and Bertha notices one windmill in a field that is not turning, exposing the trio. Her Gliscor bursts their balloon with Guillotine, and when Meowth fits power-up armour onto Seviper and Carnivine, her Golem’s Rock Blast destroys it; Magby’s Fire Punch then blasts Team Rocket off.
Ash asks Bertha for a battle, and Torterra faces her Hippowdon. Hippowdon dodges Leaf Storm by digging, strikes with Iron Head from below, and finishes Torterra with Fire Fang despite Ash learning to read the trembling ground. Ash accepts the defeat, and Bertha praises his composure and powers of observation.
