Synopsis
At Sunyshore Port, Kenny challenges Ash on the condition that Dawn travels with him if he wins, and Dawn must decide where her journey goes next. Waiting for the ferry to Lily of the Valley Island, the friends meet Kenny, who is training with Olivine Gym Leader Jasmine, and Flint, whose Infernape saves Kenny’s Floatzel from Team Rocket.
Jasmine challenges Flint, and his Infernape defeats her Steelix with Flare Blitz. Flint tells Ash about his own Sinnoh League run and reveals that he is about to challenge Cynthia for the Champion’s title. Kenny then asks for a Buizel-versus-Empoleon battle, and the next day Empoleon’s Drill Peck defeats Ash’s Buizel despite Ash borrowing Flint’s defensive style.
Rather than answer Kenny in person, Dawn leaves him a letter and a Piplup figurine at the lighthouse: she will cheer for Ash at the League before deciding her future, and believes they will meet again. Kenny promises as much as the ferry departs, Flint goes to face Cynthia, and Team Rocket follow the ship.
