Rematch at the Nacrene Gym! is the 16th episode of Pokémon: Black & White, the fourteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 669th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 674, Bulbapedia code BW016). It first aired in Japan on 13 January 2011 and in the United States on 21 May 2011. It falls within the season’s Nacrene City & the Meteonite stretch (EP14–EP17).
The first half of the premiere’s Who’s That Pokémon? lacked the Black and White logo; with no Team Rocket, it is the first English episode since AG145 without Michele Knotz or Carter Cathcart.
Synopsis
After a gruelling day of training at the Battle Club, Ash defeats Lenora in a rematch and wins the Basic Badge. Don George has Tepig run on a treadmill while dodging rubber balls that imitate Shadow Ball, and Ash sharpens his own reflexes for Roar and Mean Look.
Oshawott swims against a current until Axew presses the wrong buttons and a wave sweeps it away; flung up a waterfall-like slope, it learns Aqua Jet, although its aim is wild, and Tepig masters Flame Charge. At the Gym, Lenora’s Herdier blocks Ember with Protect, and Roar again swaps Tepig out for Oshawott, which Watchog traps with Mean Look and wears down with Confuse Ray and Thunderbolt.
Oshawott’s erratic Aqua Jet finally crashes into Watchog and both faint. Tepig then trades blows with Herdier, its Flame Charge meeting Giga Impact head-on until Herdier collapses first. Lenora praises Ash’s style, Nurse Joy reports that the Egg will hatch soon, and Ash sets his sights on Castelia City.
