Synopsis
In Castelia City Cilan defends Ash’s team against Burgundy, a vengeful Pokémon Connaisseuse who once lost to him at the Striaton Gym. When Ash joins the queue at a Connoisseur booth, Burgundy pulls him behind a curtain and insults each of his Pokémon in turn, from Sewaddle’s Ability to Pikachu, telling him he will never succeed in the Unova League.
Cilan reveals that he is an A-class Connoisseur and that Burgundy is a C-class beginner, who explains that she trained and gained her accreditation only to find him gone from the Gym. She challenges him to a two-on-two battle: if she wins, Ash must replace all his Pokémon.
Burgundy’s Dewott cannot break through Dwebble, which hangs on with Sturdy, powers up with Shell Smash and blocks Razor Shell until Dewott collapses. Her Sawsbuck then falls to Pansage, which dodges underground with Dig and wins with Solar Beam. Burgundy vows to become an S-class Connaisseuse and beat Cilan next time, and Ash looks forward to his Castelia Gym battle.
