Baffling the Bouffalant! is the 18th episode of Pokémon: BW Rival Destinies, the fifteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 719th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 724, Bulbapedia code BW066). It first aired in Japan on 16 February 2012 and in the United States on 16 June 2012. It falls within the season’s Driftveil Gym, Chargestone Cave & the Hero’s Ruin stretch (EP61–EP66).
Synopsis
A Bouffalant stampede splits the group in two, leaving Iris in charge of Ash’s squabbling Oshawott and Tepig in herd territory. Nurse Joy, who patrols the forest to treat injured Bouffalant, explains that the herd spares anyone with an afro and hands out afro wigs; Snivy has to be forced into hers before a suspicious Bouffalant leaves them alone.
When Oshawott and Tepig fight again, Water Gun knocks Axew onto a Bouffalant. The terrified Axew escapes with a bush stuck on its head like an afro, loses it to a Pidove, and is saved when Snivy shapes another bush into an afro with Vine Whip. On the other side of the forest, Ash, Cilan and their Pokémon get wigs from Nurse Joy too.
Iris finds an injured Bouffalant and spots healing herbs out of reach on a cliff. Snivy launches Oshawott and Tepig with Vine Whip, Tepig’s Flamethrower boosts them higher and Oshawott cuts the herbs with Razor Shell, so Iris can treat the Bouffalant’s leg. When the herd corners them, a Wild Charge frizzes Iris’s hair into an afro and the healed Bouffalant protects its friends, and the group reunites by a warning sign that had gone unseen.
