Synopsis
The Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup opens in Lacunosa Town, and Iris’s new Dragonite wins its first match despite refusing to obey her. Trip vows to win and defeat Alder, the prize opponent, while Georgia and Burgundy renew their rivalries with Iris and Cilan.
The sixteen entrants watch an exhibition match between Cynthia’s Garchomp and the Elite Four’s Caitlin and her Gothitelle, whose clash of Draco Meteor and Thunderbolt lights up the arena before time runs out on a draw. In the first round, Trip’s newly evolved Serperior lowers Burgundy’s Darmanitan’s Defense with Leer and wins with SolarBeam despite the type disadvantage, and Ash, Cilan and Dawn win their matches.
The last match pits Iris against Georgia. Dragonite ignores Iris’s orders, taking Beartic’s Hidden Power and Ice Beam head-on rather than dodging, and then knocks Beartic out with a single Thunder Punch. Georgia tells Iris that Dragonite won the match, not her, and Trip glares at Alder as the first day ends.
