Synopsis

On a ship bound for Aspertia City, Ash meets N, a mysterious young man who calls all Pokémon his friends and claims he can hear their voices. N has just explored the ruins of the P2 Laboratory, where a terminal briefly showed him a diagram of Genesect, before boarding.

He is shaken when Ash mentions Reshiram and tells the legend of a hero whose heart becomes one with Pokémon. When Ash says his dream is to become a Pokémon Master, N, who sees battles as forcing friends to fight, walks away. During a practice battle between Iris’s Excadrill and Ash’s Boldore, Team Rocket lure Axew away with berries and trap Pikachu in a containment field.

N shields Snivy and Axew from Frillish’s Shadow Ball and tells the villains that people like them are why the Pokémon world is imperfect. Unfezant’s Aerial Ace frees Pikachu, Axew blocks another Shadow Ball with Dragon Rage, and Air Cutter blasts Team Rocket off. N then calls two Alomomola whose Refresh cures Pikachu’s Stun Spore, and before leaving the ship he tells Ash that despite their differences they will meet again.
