Synopsis
A hooded Madame X and her evil Malamar hypnotise Team Rocket and then Pikachu in a scheme to conquer the world, until Ash’s faith in Pikachu breaks the spell. Near Cyllage City’s radio observatory a battered Meowth warns the group that Malamar has brainwashed Jessie, James and their Pokémon, and that he escaped only by scratching himself with Fury Swipes to stay awake.
The brainwashed duo and Madame X corner the group, and Malamar lifts Pikachu away with Psychic. Clemont’s Pikachu-tracking robot leads them to the observatory but explodes, and Malamar’s light hypnotises Clemont, Bonnie and Serena; Meowth keeps Ash free and topples a planet model to block Malamar.
Madame X sets her Pokémon corps (Beedrill, Noivern, Pangoro, Scolipede and Exploud) and Pikachu on Ash; Pikachu shocks him, but Ash keeps believing in it and Pikachu hesitates. The Pikabot crashes into Malamar, breaking the hypnosis; Madame X is revealed as a brainwashed Officer Jenny, and Malamar, its plan exposed, wrecks its machine and escapes as the observatory explodes. Afterwards Meowth notes that Malamar evolves from Inkay, and James’s Inkay winks nervously.
