Temporal Forces booster pack

Scarlet & Violet—Temporal Forces is the fifth main expansion of the Scarlet & Violet era, released on 22 March 2024. Its headline is the return of ACE SPEC cards — ultra-powerful Trainers and Energy limited to one per deck — arriving alongside a fresh wave of Ancient and Future Pokémon led by the box legendaries Walking Wake and Iron Leaves.

Built from Japan’s twin sets Wild Force and Cyber Judge, the 162-card main set is joined by 56 secret rares. It leans hard into the Paradox theme — adding Ancient ex like Raging Bolt and Future ex like Iron Crown and Iron Boulder — and reintroduced a card type, ACE SPEC, that would shape competitive decks for the rest of the format.

The ranks of Ancient and Future Pokémon continue to grow! Walking Wake ex breaks free of the past alongside Raging Bolt ex, while Iron Leaves ex delivers high-tech justice with Iron Crown ex. Pokémon Trainers everywhere prepare for the return of ACE SPEC cards with uniquely powerful effects.

Set Highlights: Ancient, Future & ACE SPEC

Temporal Forces pushes the Scarlet & Violet era’s Paradox theme to its peak. It grows the ranks of Ancient and Future Pokémon with new box legendaries and, most notably, brings back ACE SPEC — a restricted class of ultra-powerful Trainers and Energy last seen a decade earlier — giving deck-builders game-changing new tools.

The Ancient duo Walking Wake ex and Raging Bolt ex share the spotlight with Future Pokémon Iron Leaves ex and Iron Crown ex, while a fan-favourite Gengar ex and six new ACE SPEC Trainers round out the chase list.

Temporal Forces launched with the full Scarlet & Violet retail line-up. Booster packs came in four wrappers — Walking Wake, Iron Leaves, Raging Bolt and Iron Crown — sold in booster boxes of 36, plus two Elite Trainer Boxes (Walking Wake and Iron Leaves), Build & Battle Boxes and later premium collections.

English version vs. Japanese Variations

Temporal Forces is built from two Japanese sets released on 26 January 2024 — Wild Force (sv5K), themed around Ancient Pokémon, and Cyber Judge (sv5M), themed around Future Pokémon. The English release merges the pair into a single 218-card expansion.

Because the two Japanese sets are smaller and split by theme, English collectors get everything in one set, but with different numbering and, of course, English text. The shared artwork means the cards themselves are identical across regions.

For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards

Gengar ex — 193/162 (Ultra Rare)

Gengar ex — 193/162 (Ultra Rare)

A fan-favourite from the moment it was revealed. This full-art Gengar ex is one of the most popular — and most expensive — cards in the set, its moody illustration making it an instant collector chase.

Walking Wake ex — 205/162 (Special Illustration Rare)

Walking Wake ex — 205/162 (Special Illustration Rare)

The Ancient water legendary in full-art glory. Walking Wake ex’s Special Illustration Rare is one of the set’s premier chase cards, doubling as a competitive attacker.

Iron Leaves ex — 203/162 (Special Illustration Rare)

Iron Leaves ex — 203/162 (Special Illustration Rare)

The Future blade legendary. Iron Leaves ex’s Special Illustration Rare pairs a stunning sci-fi scene with strong tournament play, keeping demand high.

Most Powerful Cards (Competitive Play)

Raging Bolt ex — 123/162 (Double Rare)

Raging Bolt ex — 123/162 (Double Rare)

A defining attacker of the era. Raging Bolt ex’s Bellowing Thunder scales with the Energy in your discard, and the Raging Bolt / Ogerpon deck became a top-tier fixture for the rest of the format.

Iron Crown ex — 81/162 (Double Rare)

Iron Crown ex — 81/162 (Double Rare)

The engine of the Future “Iron” decks. Iron Crown ex powers up its bench and, alongside Iron Hands, anchored one of the format’s most consistent aggressive strategies.

Prime Catcher — 157/162 (ACE SPEC Rare)

Prime Catcher — 157/162 (ACE SPEC Rare)

The headline ACE SPEC. Prime Catcher gusts up an opponent’s benched Pokémon and switches your own — a swingy, one-per-deck effect that found a home in nearly every competitive list.

Trivia

  • Temporal Forces marked the return of ACE SPEC cards — a restricted class last printed all the way back in the 2013 Plasma set era. Only one ACE SPEC is allowed per deck.
  • The set introduced six ACE SPEC Trainers and one ACE SPEC Special Energy (Neo Upper Energy), instantly reshaping deck-building.
  • Prime Catcher became one of the most-played cards in the game — a near-automatic include as the era’s premier gust effect.
  • It is the English cut of two Japanese sets at once — Wild Force (Ancient) and Cyber Judge (Future) — merged into a single 218-card expansion.
  • The set expanded the Paradox roster with new Ancient legendaries Walking Wake and Raging Bolt and Future legendaries Iron Leaves, Iron Crown and Iron Boulder.
  • The full-art Gengar ex became one of the era’s standout chase cards, prized for its artwork rather than its competitive impact.
  • Its Paradox Pokémon are deliberate echoes of past Legendaries: the Ancient trio of Walking Wake, Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt mirrors the Legendary Beasts (Suicune, Entei and Raikou), while the Future trio of Iron Leaves, Iron Boulder and Iron Crown mirrors the Swords of Justice (Virizion, Terrakion and Cobalion).
  • The revived ACE SPEC cards were given a distinctive magenta frame, making them instantly recognisable across the table.
  • Buddy-Buddy Poffin debuted here — an Item that pulls two low-HP Basic Pokémon straight from the deck to the Bench — and quickly became one of the era’s most-played consistency cards.
  • Released in English on March 22, 2024, Temporal Forces carried forward the Ancient and Future card traits introduced in Paradox Rift, deepening the era’s time-travel theme.
