Prismatic Evolutions booster pack

Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions is a special Pokémon TCG expansion released on 17 January 2025, built entirely around Eevee and its eight Evolutions. Rather than a numbered main-series set, Prismatic Evolutions is a collector-focused special set of 131 cards — swelling to 180 once its enormous run of secret rares is counted — and it became one of the most in-demand releases of the whole Scarlet & Violet era, selling out almost everywhere within hours of launch.

Every member of the Eevee family takes the spotlight as a Stellar Tera Pokémon ex — Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon all appear alongside Eevee itself — and each is given stunning Special Illustration Rare and Hyper Rare treatments. Umbreon ex in particular became the era’s crown-jewel chase card, its moonlit Special Illustration Rare commanding some of the highest prices of any modern Pokémon card.

The set is best known for its brand-new reverse-holo patterns. Alongside standard printings, cards can be pulled with a shimmering Poké Ball pattern or, far more rarely, a coveted Master Ball pattern stamped across the card face — an instant-classic collectible gimmick that sent players tearing through packs. Add in a deep run of full-art Trainers, ACE SPEC cards and the returning Tera mechanic, and Prismatic Evolutions rewards collectors and competitive players alike.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions offers beautifully illustrated cards showcasing Eevee and its eight Evolutions, all appearing as Stellar Tera Pokémon ex. Trainers can collect and play with unique special illustration rare cards, plus seek out the expansion’s dazzling Poké Ball and Master Ball pattern cards!

Set Highlights: the Eeveelution ex line-up

Prismatic Evolutions is all about the Eeveelutions. Every one of Eevee’s eight Evolutions headlines the set as a Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, and each is given a breathtaking Special Illustration Rare — together forming the most complete Eevee-family showcase the TCG has ever printed:

Prismatic Evolutions launched with the usual spread of sealed products, though demand massively outstripped supply and most sold out on release day. English booster packs came with four different wrapper artworks, and the set was sold through an Elite Trainer Box, a Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, a Booster Bundle, a Binder Collection, a Poster Collection, a Surprise Box and an Accessory Pouch Special Collection, among other Eeveelution-themed collections.

English version vs. Japanese Variations

In Japan, Prismatic Evolutions corresponds to the special set Terastal Festival ex (sv8a), released a little earlier on 6 December 2024. As with other special sets, the Japanese and English releases share the same Eeveelution artwork and Stellar Tera Pokémon ex line-up, though the card numbering and product organisation differ between regions.

For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards

Umbreon ex

Umbreon ex — 161/131 (Special Illustration Rare)

The undisputed crown jewel of Prismatic Evolutions — and arguably the single most sought-after card of the entire Scarlet & Violet era. Umbreon ex’s Special Illustration Rare shows the Moonlight Pokémon perched against a starlit night sky, and mint copies have sold for hundreds of dollars, with the Master Ball pattern printing climbing well into four figures. In battle, its Moon Mirage attack hits for 160 and leaves the opponent’s Active Pokémon Confused.

Sylveon ex

Sylveon ex — 156/131 (Special Illustration Rare)

Sylveon ex’s Special Illustration Rare is one of the set’s most beloved pulls, framing the Intertwining Pokémon in a soft ribbon of pastel light. It sits consistently among the highest-value cards in the set behind Umbreon.

Espeon ex

Espeon ex — 155/131 (Special Illustration Rare)

Espeon ex’s Special Illustration Rare bathes the Sun Pokémon in radiant morning light — a fan favourite that pairs with Umbreon as the set’s marquee day-and-night duo. Its Psych Out attack does 160 and discards a random card from the opponent’s hand.

Leafeon ex

Leafeon ex — 144/131 (Special Illustration Rare)

Leafeon ex rounds out the priciest Eeveelution Special Illustration Rares, its verdant, sun-dappled artwork making it a centrepiece for collectors chasing the complete family.

Most Powerful Cards (Competitive)

Budew

Budew — 004/131 (Common)

Despite being a humble Common, Budew is one of the most impactful cards in the set for competitive play. Its Itchy Pollen attack does just 10 damage but stops your opponent from playing any Item cards during their next turn — a turn-one lock that slots into countless decks and can single-handedly stall an opponent’s setup.

Dragapult ex

Dragapult ex — 073/131 (Double Rare)

A reprint of one of the format’s premier attackers. Dragapult ex’s Phantom Dive hits for 200 and spreads six damage counters across the opponent’s Bench in any way you like, powering one of the most dominant archetypes of the era.

Prime Catcher

Prime Catcher — 119/131 (ACE SPEC Rare)

The gold-standard gust ACE SPEC. Prime Catcher pulls one of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon into the Active Spot and lets you reposition your own — a game-defining tempo swing, limited to one per deck.

Sparkling Crystal

Sparkling Crystal — 129/131 (ACE SPEC Rare)

A powerful Tera-focused tool: while attached to a Tera Pokémon, Sparkling Crystal makes that Pokémon’s attacks cost one Energy less of any type, dramatically accelerating Tera ex attackers.

Trivia

  • Prismatic Evolutions is one of the very few Scarlet & Violet sets built around a single evolutionary family — Eevee and all eight of its Evolutions.
  • It reintroduced special reverse-holo patterns to the English TCG: the shimmering Poké Ball pattern and the ultra-rare Master Ball pattern, the latter being one of the hardest modern pull rates.
  • Demand was so high that many products sold out within minutes online and drew long queues at retail, echoing the frenzy around Pokémon 151.
  • Umbreon ex (161/131) became the face of the set’s popularity, with graded copies reaching record prices for a standard-set Pokémon card.
  • In Japan the set arrived earlier as Terastal Festival ex (sv8a) on 6 December 2024.
