Fighting Ire with Fire! is the 6th episode of Pokémon DP: Sinnoh League Victors, the thirteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 625th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 630, Bulbapedia code DP163). It first aired in Japan on 11 February 2010 and in the United States on 10 July 2010. It falls within the season’s Infernape, Volkner & Sunyshore Tower stretch (EP163–EP166).
Synopsis
Ash’s Monferno evolves into Infernape after its Blaze Ability runs wild during a battle with Barry. On the road to Sunyshore City the friends meet Barry, who now has eight Badges, and Paul, who also has eight and coldly refuses Barry’s challenge before telling him to battle Ash instead.
In a three-on-three match, Monferno dodges Hydro Cannon with Dig and lands Mach Punch, but a point-blank Hydro Cannon throws it into the trees. Then Team Rocket trap the four Trainers in capsules and cage Pikachu, Piplup and Barry’s Empoleon. Monferno returns with Blaze ablaze, smashes Ash’s capsule and the mecha with Flame Wheel and Mach Punch, and blasts Team Rocket away.
As the burning mecha collapses on the caged Pokémon, Paul’s Electabuzz shields them with Protect. Ash reaches into the flames and holds Monferno, reminding it of their promise; it calms down, braces the cage and evolves into Infernape, which frees everyone. Paul leaves, promising to face Ash at the Sinnoh League, and Ash sets off for his eighth Badge.
