It first aired in Japan on 23 February 2012 and in the United States on 23 June 2012. It falls within the season’s Mistralton City stretch (EP67–EP69).
Premiered on 23 June 2012, the day Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 launched in Japan; Skyla’s Japanese voice can be heard as she introduces Swanna.
Synopsis
In Mistralton City, Gym Leader Skyla hands out or withholds Jet Badges without battling, and Cilan loses a real battle when he challenges her method. Skyla, a cargo pilot, judges each challenger’s Pokémon against her Flying-types in “Air Battles” she simulates in her head, then flies off for the afternoon. Her grandfather Miles, a retired Gym Leader, explains that she adopted the system so that the crowds of challengers would not keep her from flying.
Cilan apologises for his outburst, introduces himself as a fellow Gym Leader and talks Skyla into a real three-on-three battle. Swoobat defeats Pansage with Air Cutter and Gust before falling to Crustle’s Rock Wrecker, and Crustle uses Shell Smash and X-Scissor to beat Unfezant while Cilan lectures Skyla about what a Badge means.
Skyla’s Swanna then knocks out Crustle with Brave Bird, turns Stunfisk’s Scald against it inside a Hurricane, heals her burn with Aqua Ring and finishes Stunfisk with another Brave Bird. Cilan is devastated that his loss seems to prove her point. Ash calls her Air Battles boring and demands a proper Gym battle, and when Miles takes his side, Skyla agrees to battle him.
