Expedition to Onix Island! is the 39th episode of Pokémon: BW Rival Destinies, the fifteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 740th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 745, Bulbapedia code BW087). It first aired in Japan on 5 July 2012 and in the United States on 10 November 2012. It falls within the season’s Season 2 begins: Undella Town stretch (EP85–EP89).
Synopsis
A day trip to a deserted island turns into a desperate escape from a horde of Onix, and Meloetta reveals its Pirouette Forme. Dawn tempts Ash with tales of a special Onix said to bring remarkable luck, so Cynthia’s butler Jervis ferries everyone to the island, with Meloetta tagging along. Piplup and Oshawott pick fights with a Krabby and a Kingler and keep quarrelling over Meloetta while Cilan cooks a lunch Dawn rates as good as Brock’s.
Searching a cave for the Onix, the group is chased by several of them and split up: Iris, Dawn and Axew wander into dead ends, an electric shock from a Magnemite and a falling vine, while Ash, Cilan, Meloetta and the Pokémon are cornered by three Onix. Meloetta sings its Relic Song, changes into Pirouette Forme and beats them with Close Combat.
The two groups reunite trapped between rocks and a dozen Onix. Piplup and Oshawott fight back side by side, and Oshawott learns Hydro Pump, but the Onix keep coming until a Shiny Onix appears and orders them away. Jervis suggests that Meloetta’s song touched it. Meanwhile, Team Rocket lower a sensor into the sea in search of undersea ruins.
