A Meteoric Rise to Excellence! is the 51st episode of Pokémon DP: Galactic Battles, the twelfth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 618th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 623, Bulbapedia code DP156). It first aired in Japan on 17 December 2009 and in the United States on 8 May 2010. It falls within the season’s Towards Daybreak Town stretch (EP153–EP157).
Synopsis
A wild Gible determined to learn Draco Meteor latches onto Ash and his friends, and it masters the move while helping them rescue a Trainer’s Altaria from Team Rocket. Near Daybreak Town, Wilma is coaching her Altaria in Draco Meteor when the Gible arrives, and Ash agrees to help it train, though every misfire seems to hit Piplup, whom Gible also bites.
Falling boulders scatter the group as Team Rocket trap Altaria in a bubble and fly off. Ash and Dawn give chase with Gible digging alongside, Brock carries Wilma, and Ash climbs a cliff by holding Gible’s fin while Mamoswine catches a falling Dawn. Altaria breaks out of the robot with Ice Beam and Flamethrower.
Gible eats Team Rocket’s robot and fights Seviper and Carnivine with Dragon Pulse, while Pikachu’s Iron Tail frees Altaria. At last Gible lands a true Draco Meteor, blasting the trio off, then celebrates with another that hits Piplup. Wilma points the friends to Daybreak Town, and Gible watches them leave, unsure whether to follow.
