Iris and Excadrill Against the Dragon Buster! is the 33rd episode of Pokémon: Black & White, the fourteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 686th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 691, Bulbapedia code BW033). It first aired in Japan on 26 May 2011 and in the United States on 17 September 2011. It falls within the season’s Emolga, Bianca & Iris’s dragons stretch (EP24–EP33).
Synopsis
A self-styled “Dragon Buster” named Georgia challenges Iris, and the defeat leads Iris to win back the trust of her disobedient Excadrill. Georgia’s Beartic easily beats Axew, and when Iris sends out Excadrill, it ignores her orders and is beaten by Rock Smash, so Georgia leaves mocking her.
Iris explains that she caught Excadrill as a Drilbur near her home after losing to it nine days running, rescued it from a cliff fall and won the Village of Dragons’ competition with it, but since losing to Drayden’s Haxorus it has refused to listen. That night she realises she kept sending it into battles it could not win and apologises.
Iris joins Excadrill’s solitary training, and by sunrise it masters Focus Blast. After Georgia eats their breakfast and demands a rematch, Excadrill’s Focus Blast and Drill Run wear down Beartic, and Iris’s encouragement helps it break free of ice. Both Pokémon faint, and Iris and Excadrill are closer than ever.
