Synopsis
Ash wins the Cliff Badge from Grant at a Gym built around a climbing wall, with Froakie defeating Onix and Pikachu defeating Tyrunt. In Cyllage City Ash climbs the Gym’s wall to the battlefield, which Grant says builds concentration, while his friends take the elevator; the referee allows Grant two Pokémon without substitutions and Ash as many as he likes.
Onix’s Flash Cannon and Rock Polish put Froakie under pressure, but when Onix uses Rock Tomb, Froakie leaps from rock to rock as Ash trained it to, fires Water Pulse at Onix’s head, climbs along its Iron Tail and finally brings it down. Grant’s Tyrunt then knocks Froakie out with Draco Meteor and overpowers Fletchling with Crunch and Dragon Tail.
Pikachu dodges Crunch with Quick Attack, breaks Draco Meteor with Iron Tail and rides the falling rocks, blocks Dragon Tail, and when Grant tries Rock Tomb knocks a rock into Tyrunt’s jaws before winning with Thunderbolt. Grant presents the Cliff Badge, Ash credits his whole team, and Serena suggests Shalour City next, where Grant warns that the battle will be different.
