Rebel Clash Gigantamax Toxtricity booster pack

The Rebel Clash expansion is the second set of the Pokémon TCG Sword & Shield era, released in English on 1 May 2020. Its 209 cards (192 in the main set plus 17 secret rares) continue the Galar journey begun by the Sword & Shield Base Set, and the set leans hard into a loud, punk-rock attitude — fitting for a set whose mascot is the electric-punk Pokémon Toxtricity.

Built from the Japanese expansion Rebellion Crash (S2, 6 March 2020) with cards drawn in from the VMAX Rising subset, Rebel Clash expands the Pokémon V and VMAX line-up enormously — the three Galar starters all gain VMAX forms (Rillaboom VMAX, Cinderace VMAX and Inteleon VMAX), joined by the format-defining Dragapult VMAX and the punk headliner Toxtricity VMAX.

Most importantly for competitive play, Rebel Clash debuted Boss’s Orders — the gust-effect Supporter (illustrated with Giovanni) that lets you drag an opponent’s Benched Pokémon into the Active spot. It became one of the most important cards of the entire era and a staple of nearly every deck.

Rock out with new Pokémon! Crank it loud and blast the beat—you’ll find rebellion, chaos, and punk attitude galore in the Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield—Rebel Clash expansion, loaded with Pokémon V including Toxtricity V, Dubwool V, Boltund V, Sandaconda V, and more!

Set Highlights: Crank It Loud

Rebel Clash is packed with Pokémon VMAX — the three Galar starters reach their final forms, the punk Toxtricity takes centre stage, and Dragapult arrives to dominate the format:

Rebel Clash launched as a full retail expansion: sealed booster boxes, an Elite Trainer Box, two Zacian and Zamazenta theme decks, and a Build & Battle box. The English release runs to 209 cards — 192 in the main set plus 17 secret rares.

How it compares to Japan and Korea. In Japan the material arrived as Rebellion Crash (S2, 6 March 2020), with the biggest VMAX cards also drawn from the VMAX Rising high-class subset. Korea, which localises the Japanese sets, released the same expansion as 반역 크래시 (Rebellion Crash) sharing the Japanese pack artwork. As across the era, the English set is larger, its count swollen by full-art and secret-rare alternates.

The English set came in four booster artworks — Rillaboom, Cinderace, Inteleon and Gigantamax Toxtricity — shown here alongside the Japanese Rebellion Crash pack:

Beyond boosters, the set was sold as a sealed 36-pack booster box, an Elite Trainer Box, two single-Prize theme decks (Zacian and Zamazenta), and a Build & Battle box:

As with the rest of the era, the Japanese release came first — Rebellion Crash (S2) launched on 6 March 2020, and its largest VMAX cards were also printed in the VMAX Rising subset. The Pokémon Company combined and expanded that material into the single 209-card English Rebel Clash expansion on 1 May 2020.

The cards themselves are near-identical between regions, differing only in the language of the name and text and in the set symbol. The English set adds the extra secret rares — rainbow-rare VMAX, full-art V and Supporter cards, and gold Trainers and Energy — that make up numbers 193—209.

Toxtricity VMAX — #71/192

A hard-hitting single-Prize-friendly attacker whose G-Max Riot scales with Benched Pokémon, backed by 320 HP. Alongside Inteleon VMAX (#50) and the era’s Capture Energy (#171) and Scoop Up Net (#165), it rounded out a deep competitive toolkit.

Trivia & Pop Culture

  • A punk-rock set. Rebel Clash wears its attitude on its sleeve — the official tagline is “Rock out with new Pokémon!” — and its mascot is the electric-punk Pokémon Toxtricity, whose Gigantamax VMAX headlines the set.
  • Boss’s Orders debuts. The gust-effect Supporter Boss’s Orders, illustrated with Giovanni, first appeared here. Dragging a Benched Pokémon into the Active spot proved so powerful it became a four-of staple for the rest of the era.
  • The starters go VMAX. All three Galar starters reach their VMAX forms — Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon — completing the line-up begun in the Base Set.
  • Galarian forms galore. Rebel Clash is full of Galarian regional variants, including Galarian Mr. Rime, Galarian Darmanitan, Galarian Cursola, Galarian Runerigus, Galarian Perrserker and Galarian Weezing.
  • New special Energy. The set introduced several special Energy cards that shaped deck-building — Capture Energy, Twin Energy, Horror Psychic Energy and Speed Lightning Energy.
  • Dragapult’s reign. Dragapult VMAX debuted here and went on to become one of the most dominant attackers of the whole Sword & Shield era.
  • 17 secret rares. Beyond the 192-card main set, numbers 193—209 add rainbow-rare VMAX, full-art V and Supporter cards, and gold Trainers and Energy — the set’s top chase cards.
